iPhone paintings
In 2008, I was swept up in the excitement of the new iPhone 3 and its touch screen technology. I began experimenting with various painting apps, and quickly became hooked on the endless creative possibilities they offered. Brushes and Sketchbook Pro were some of my favorites, and I spent hours every day painting and sharing my work on online communities like Tumblr and Flickr. It was a wonderful, immersive experience, and I'm grateful for the time I spent honing my skills and exploring my artistic side under the handle John T. and John T. Halliday. Below are some of my favorite digital paintings from that time, along with the descriptions I wrote to accompany them.

The secret of S.PELLEGRINO. Legend has it that the secret of the San Pellegrino mineral water is the unexplained nature of the "weeping emerald". The "weeping emerald" was found at the bottom of a giant underground spring. The emerald necklace was believed to be buried several thousand years ago. The necklace is said to be owned by a great queen who lost her husband in a famous sword duel. The king's sword was inept and broke during a finishing strike, the king's sword stabbed his own heart, killing him instantly. The queen never remarried, and died of old age with natural causes. Soon after the queen's passing the emerald began to weep and then wouldn't stop weeping. The emerald caused some expensive floods in the pristine castle. The estate agreed to have the emerald buried and forgotton. Since then the emerald has been found, and also found was the secret of S.Pellegrino. Painted with my iPhone.
